Magical Girl Transformations is an attempt to create my own sacred space. The works juxtapose the colorful and "girly" features of magical girl animations and anime, nostalgic to my generation, with occult and mythological imagery. Thematically, they deal with healing through the cycle of sacrifice, death, and rebirth.
In the body of work, escapism from the world of magical girls and fairies seeps into and blends with the mundane. I have reflected a lot on the difficult experiences of my youth and those of my circle of friends, and have examined us as the crucial yet sometimes problematic consultants to each other. Partying has been one of our essential lifelines. At the core is hope and healing: a brutal and difficult sacrifice that enables change.
